Bruce Cassidy: Rick Nash ‘Closer Than He Was’ To Return To Bruins Lineup

Rick Nash will miss his 10th consecutive game Thursday night when the Boston Bruins take on the Florida Panthers at the BB&T Center, but head coach Bruce Cassidy will not rule out a weekend return for the power forward.

Nash, who suffered an upper-body injury in last month’s victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning, resumed skating earlier this week in Boston for the first time since his injury — a good sign for Bruins fans after many began to question whether he’d play for the Black and Gold again this season.

“He skated (on Wednesday), so that’s good,” per NBC Sports Boston’s Joe Haggerty. “He’s a day closer when you’re skating. Now that he’s skating, not speaking out of turn, there would be a chance (he could play this weekend). I’m not saying he will or he won’t, but he’s obviously closer than he was three days ago when he wasn’t even skating.”

Cassidy has been quiet about what specific injury Nash is dealing with.

Since being acquired from the New York Rangers at the NHL trade deadline, Nash has notched three goals and three assists in 11 games with Boston.

The Bruins close out their regular season this weekend with back-to-back games at TD Garden against the Ottawa Senators and Panthers.
