Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis shared an emotional video on Twitter announcing that he had violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

As a result, he will be suspended for the first four games of the season.

In the emotional, two-minute video, Davis said he never would intentionally cheat, and the banned substance he tested positive for was an estrogen blocker.

Davis was he was “completely caught off guard” and “it’s one of those situations where the NFL rules are clear. They state that you’re responsible as a player for what you put in your body.”

In January, the 35-year-old told reporters he would be retiring after the 2018 season. But Davis appears to possibly be having second thoughts, as he ends the video with a simple, “maybe this isn’t my last year.”

Thomas has played all twelve seasons of his career in Carolina, earning All-Pro honors in 2015.
