How Hit From Patriots Star Influenced Jimmy Garoppolo’s Benching

Netflix continued its NFL docuseries ride with “Receiver” debuting this year, and the New England Patriots had a cameo.

Davante Adams is one of the stars of the docuseries, and the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 6 matchup against the Patriots at Allegiant Stadium was highlighted. Of course, fans relived the infamous ending to the game, but from Adams’ perspective, “Receiver” revealed how frustrated he was with Josh McDaniels’ offense.

One of the other iconic plays from that matchup was the vicious hit Jabrill Peppers laid on Adams that was clean and forced a fumble. Netflix cameras caught the star wide receiver’s reaction to the hit.

“I gotta get the (expletive) out of here before I lose my (expletive) life,” Adams said in the third episode, per Nick O’Malley of MassLive. “I’ve never been hit this many (expletive) times in my career. Every game I get (expletived) up.”

Adams’ complaints not only were toward the Patriots but also a shot at McDaniels and Jimmy Garoppolo, who had to go to the hospital after the Raiders’ win due to a back injury. Garoppolo officially was benched after Week 8, and Aidan O’Connell was the starter for the rest of the season. Adams confirmed his role in the decision.

“Well my opinion on that, was I signed off on that,” Adams said, per The Sporting News. “And that’s just the reality of it. You know, I love Jimmy and he’s a great guy, but something had to happen in order for us to have a stretch and in order for me to remain a Raider, in all honesty.”

Las Vegas turned its season around when Antonio Pierce took over as head coach after McDaniels was fired, and the Raiders finished 8-9 last season. Garoppolo signed with the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, and Adams was speculated to work his way to the New York Jets.
