Arian Foster’s days with the Houston Texans are over.

The Texans released Foster on Thursday, ending the four-time Pro Bowl running back’s seven-year run in Houston. Foster departs as the team’s all-time leading rusher, totaling 6,472 rushing yards in 76 career games.

Houston saves $6.6 million in salary cap space by releasing Foster, who played in just four games last season before tearing his Achilles. The 29-year-old has missed 23 regular-season games over the last three seasons because of various injuries.

Foster has been effective when healthy, putting together four seasons in which he totaled more than 1,200 rushing yards. The undrafted University of Tennessee product led the NFL in yards from scrimmage during the 2010 season with 2,220. He scored 16 rushing touchdowns that season and added 15 more during the 2012 campaign — both were league highs.

Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes currently are the top running backs on Houston’s roster. Foster joins an intriguing class of free-agent running backs that also includes Matt Forte, Doug Martin, Lamar Miller and Alfred Morris.
