Patriots Vs. Jets Odds: New England Slight Week 16 Chalk In New York
The New England Patriots can clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a win Sunday when they visit the New York Jets as slim three-point betting favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Patriots picked up their second straight win last weekend, manhandling the Tennessee Titans 33-16 and covering as 14-point chalk in their final home game of the regular season.
The win came at a cost, though, with injuries to key personnel that could leave the club shorthanded going into Sunday’s Patriots vs. Jets betting matchup at MetLife Stadium.
Receiver Danny Amendola and linebacker Dont’a Hightower both left Sunday’s contest against the Titans with knee injuries, followed by safety Patrick Chung, who went down with a hip injury in the fourth quarter.
They are joined in the clinic by receiver Julian Edelman, who remains sidelined with a foot injury and is considered doubtful for Sunday’s matchup, and quarterback Tom Brady, who reportedly went into action against the Titans suffering from an unspecified illness but is expected to play against the Jets.
Sunday’s clash with the Patriots also has enormous playoff implications for the Jets, who enter Week 16 in a three-way tie with the Pittsburgh and Kansas City in the AFC wild-card race but remain outside the playoff picture as they trail both the Steelers and the Chiefs on tiebreakers.
New York has looked strong on both sides of the ball during its current four-game SU winning streak, holding opponents to just 16 points per game while also going a respectable 3-0-1 ATS according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
The point total also has finished UNDER in the Jets’ last three games, a reflection of their strong defense which has held opposing rushers to under 75 yards per game in three of their last four outings, and ends a stretch of seven games in which the total played OVER.
New York will need to continue its strong play to reverse the current trend against the Patriots that has seen it lose eight of its last nine meetings SU. However, the Jets have dominated at the sportsbooks in recent clashes with New England, going 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven, and 4-2 ATS in their last six home dates with the Patriots.
The Patriots enter the week as +333 favorites on the updated Super Bowl betting lines, with the Jets further back at +7500 on the odds to win Super Bowl 50 in February.
