Week 14 Waiver Wire: Must-Drop Players From Your Fantasy Football Lineup

It’s Week 14, which means the playoffs are beginning for most fantasy football leagues.

With any luck, you’re still involved in the sprint to the finish line. And if you are, we have some important advice with 13 weeks of NFL action in the books: Pull the plug.

No, we’re not telling you to tank in the biggest games of your fantasy football season. We’re simply advising you to cut bait with players who aren’t performing and/or who you don’t expect to perform down the stretch. Fantasy championships are hard to come by, and you don’t want to miss out on a chance at glory because you wasted a roster spot on a player who simply isn’t getting the job done.

As such, here are five players you should consider dropping going into Week 14.

Colin Kaepernick, QB, San Francisco 49ers
Kaepernick was a hot waiver-wire pickup last week heading into San Francisco’s Week 13 showdown with the Chicago Bears. But after a dud — that’s an understatement, really — that saw Kaepernick complete just one of five passes for four yards en route to being benched, you should send him right back to the open market.

James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers
It’s hard to trust anyone in Green Bay’s backfield, as the Packers’ rushing attack basically has been nonexistent this season. But Starks at least offered some potential for a few weeks based on his workload. Now? Not so much. Starks was limited to four carries, played just seven snaps and laid a goose egg in Week 13 against the Houston Texans.

Marvin Jones, WR, Detroit Lions
Detroit’s offense can put up points, but Jones has really faded since tearing it up for the first six weeks of the season. The veteran receiver totaled just two catches for 20 yards in two games leading up to the Lions’ big NFC North clash with the Vikings in Week 12. He then failed to capitalize on a heavy dose of targets and missed Week 13 with a thigh injury. Look elsewhere at the receiver position despite the upside that comes with playing alongside quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Mohamed Sanu, WR, Atlanta Falcons
Speaking of underperforming receivers, feel free to release Sanu, who hasn’t lived up to expectations this season as Atlanta’s No. 2 target alongside superstar wideout Julio Jones. Sanu totaled just 26 yards on two catches against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 before suffering a groin injury that casts additional uncertainty over his fantasy viability.

Vernon Davis, TE, Washington Redskins
Davis was a worthwhile waiver-wire consideration with Jordan Reed sidelined in Week 13, as Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has been slinging the ball all over the place in recent contests. He didn’t do much until the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals, though, and if Reed returns from his shoulder injury in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles, there’s no sense in hanging onto Davis.
