Jets and Steelers Fans Gear Up for AFC Championship With Rallies in New York and Pittsburgh The sea of green hollered from New York City on Thursday seemingly loud enough so the fans Behind the Steel Curtain could hear them coming to Pittsburgh.

A rally of a few thousand Jets fans, led by Edwin M. Anzalone, best known as Fireman Ed, assembled in Times Square during rush hour on Thursday evening, screaming to passersby and waving Jets memorabilia.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Senator Charles Schumer and Jets owner Woody Johnson all spoke on the temporary stage which was built in the middle of Broadway and West 42nd St. After their presentations, Fireman Ed reappeared with former Jet Marty Lyons and currently injured nose tackle Kris Jenkins to lead the crowd in chanting for the Jets, the New York Times reports.

The Steelers will have their chance to holler back and show some fan spirit on Friday at noon in the courtyard of the Allegheny County Courthouse on Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh.

The Steelers will be more organized than the Jets' rally, since it has an official emcee, live music and free refreshments on a first come, first served basis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Fans are also asked to donate a non-perishable food item which will go toward the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The Steelers have a little more experience with these rallies seeing as it is their fifth AFC Championship matchup in the past ten years and its only the Jets second.
