After considerable speculation that Rennes defensive midfielder Yann M'Villa would be making a summer switch to Anfield, the 20-year-old Frenchman has accepted an extension to stay with the club through 2015.

M'Villa enjoyed a highly successful 2010-11 season, being named part of the Ligue 1 team of the year, becoming a fixture in Laurent Blanc's France international side, and leading Rennes to a fifth place finish — a four spot improvement from 2009-10.

The move to give M'Villa an extension, though, may not mean that he won't be available in the future. Instead, it simply may serve to protect his transfer value in the future, according to TalkSPORT.

According to TransferMarkt, M'Villa is valued at £14 million.

Manchester United and Arsenal were also interested in acquiring his services.
