What’s in a name? For Brad Marchand, plenty. The feisty Bruins forward has earned his fair share of nicknames over the years, each more clever and irreverent than the last.
Recently, coach Claude Julien cast the spotlight on Marchand by calling him a “brat” after a slew-footing and fighting incident against the Penguins. The name might have some staying power if Marchand continues his hot play.
“There’s a lot of nicknames that are coming out of nowhere right now,” Marchand admitted after his two-goal performance on Tuesday. He said he wasn’t sure about embracing his new nickname just yet. For now, “it’s just another one on the list.”
Marchand sure does have plenty of nicknames to choose from. He has embraced “The Nose-Faced Killah,” and often wears a t-shirt promoting that name. “Marshmont,” on the other hand, he hasn’t been so fond of.
And “Honey Badger,” a new one that Andrew Ference appears set on using with Marchand?
“That’s stupid,” Marchand said. Looks like Honey Badger do care.
So while Marchand seems open to adding new nicknames to his repertoire, his plate of nicknames is pretty full at the moment. There are certainly a lot of choices to select from.
