Netherlands Energy Company has come under fire for a racy, new commercial.
It urges Dutch women to forbid their husbands from attending this summer’s European Championships (co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland) because men could easily be seduced by beautiful Ukrainian women.
Known as the “Hou ‘m thuis” orĀ ”Keep Him Home” ad, the commercial has drawn protests from the highest levels of the Ukrainian government, according to Russia Today.
“We find this commercial discriminating, fuelling ethnic hatred and unfair to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesmanĀ Aleksandr Dikusarov reportedly told Vesti.ru. “We’ll be vigorously pushing for such an ad to be removed from television.”
The company is offering beer taps as part of a new promotion for new customers. It suggests that Dutch men who can stay home, tap their own beer and watch this summer’s games will have no need to travel to Eastern Europe.
An unseen Dutch wife performed a google search for “Ukrainian women,” and was shocked by what she found.
