Lukas Podolski, Bacary Sagna and Per Mertesacker weren't fit enough to participate in Arsenal's tour of the Far East, but the club found another way to use the famous trio.
The three players traveled to Nigeria and represented the Gunners in a soft drink commercial.
Mertesacker, Podolski and Sagna danced in a Malta Guiness (the low sugar version) commercial. Led by a woman named Kaffi, the Arsenal men showed differing levels of comfort during the dance (workout) routine.
Sagna gave a nearly flawless performance. That may have been why Kaffi put him in the front of the group.
Mertesacker wasn't bad, considering he's six-feet seven-inches tall. He was lampood for the lack of speed and agility he displayed in his first season in English soccer, but drinking Malta Guiness might help him improve in those areas.
Summer signing Podolski seemed to have the most difficulty keeping up with the pace of the dance. Maybe he should stick to singing Euro-pop tunes with local bands instead of sugar-infused workouts.
Arsenal had planned to play a preseason friendly in the West African nation, but cancelled the trip due to scheduling concerns. The three players put on a show, but Nigerian fans would probably prefer watching the real starting 11 ahead of the 2012-13 season.
Watch Mertesacker, Podolski and Sagna strut their stuff in the video below.
