Boston sports fans have had a lot of their wishes granted over the course of the past decade. Each of the city’s four major sports teams has captured a championship since 2004, and each has typically been competitive even when coming up short.
That doesn’t mean we can’t still be a little greedy, though.
While Beantown’s sports enthusiasts don’t really have too much to complain about, especially when you consider the championship futility of some other cities, you still can’t help but want more. In fact, there’s something about living through such success that makes you hungrier for the next big win.
So what exactly sits at the top of Boston sports fans’ wish list this holiday season?
The Red Sox are coming off a disappointing 2012 campaign, but they’ve already been aggressive in making moves this offseason, and they have a new skipper who is looking to take a more disciplined approach. Finding success in the American League East in 2013 certainly won’t be easy, especially with the Blue Jays revamping their roster, but there are plenty of reasons to believe the Sox could shock some fans who might have written them off following last season’s struggles.
For those not concerned about baseball, perhaps an 18th banner for the Celtics would make for a great gift. The Green made an improbable run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, and after falling to LeBron James and the Miami Heat in seven games, there are plenty of C’s fans pulling for Doc Rivers‘ group to get over the hump this time around.
Then, of course, there are the Patriots, who are once again among the NFL’s elite. There’s no doubt that the Pats have been a model franchise ever since their first Super Bowl title following the 2001 season, but the two Super Bowl losses to Eli Manning and the Giants really aren’t sitting well with New England fans. Plus, with the window of opportunity closing for Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, it’s unclear how much longer the Patriots can remain Super Bowl contenders.
Or how about hockey? While adding to the ring collection is nice, there are definitely some fans who wouldn’t mind simply seeing the NHL return to action. New England winters tend to be long, and a season without hockey could make this one even longer.
