New England agreed to a two-year deal with former Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Kelly was released by the Raiders on March 27.
The 32-year-old defensive lineman was signed by the Raiders in 2004 as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State. Kelly recorded 34 sacks during his nine-year career with Oakland. He’s just one year removed from a 7 1/2-sack season in 2011. Kelly was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2010 when he registered seven sacks.
The 6-foot-6, 325-pounder had a down season in 2012 with just one sack, six quarterback hits and 12 hurries. He has experience as both a 3-4 defensive end and 4-3 defensive tackle.
