Despite failing to put a team in the NCAA championship game for just the second time in nine years, Hockey East had another strong showing in the final Division I USCHO Men’s Hockey Poll.
Released Monday, the final poll featured two Hockey East teams ranked in the top five, with Boston College finishing No. 3 and UMass Lowell No. 5.
Boston College had another strong campaign in 2013-14, finishing with a 28-8-4 record and pacing Hockey East with a 16-2-2 league mark. The Eagles reached the Frozen Four with a 4-3 win over UMass Lowell but fell to eventual champion Union College in the semifinal, 5-4.
The River Hawks, meanwhile, ended their season with a 26-11-4 record and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament after winning their second Hockey East championship in two years.
NCAA champion Union and runner-up Minnesota took the top two spots in the USCHO poll, and North Dakota rounded out the top five at No. 4.
Seven Hockey East teams cracked the top 20, with Providence, Notre Dame, Vermont, New Hampshire and Northeastern also making the list.
