At their peaks, Dan Marino and Jim Kelly were heated rivals, two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game battling for supremacy in the AFC East.
Their playing days are long in the past, however, and the former signal-callers of the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills now are good friends. With Kelly in the hospital undergoing treatment for sinus cancer, Marino paid a visit to his former rival on Sunday.
Kelly’s wife, Jill, captured the moment in an Instagram video. “Kinda LOVED this visit! On the field warriors and off the field the best of friends,” she wrote in the caption. “Amazing how a visit from this guy can lift Jim’s spirits. Thank you Dan!”
The outpouring of support has been tremendous for Kelly, who completed his final round of radiation last week. Also joining Marino on Sunday were former Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian and former coach Howard Schnellenberger.
Kelly still has a long way to go in his road to a full recovery, but it’s good to know he has a strong support group in former players, coaches and executives.
