Shane Battier’s 13-year NBA career almost certainly will come to an end after this season, but it sounds like the Miami Heat forward doesn’t plan on straying far from the game.
Battier has signed a multiyear contract to become a college basketball analyst for ESPN beginning next season, multiple sources told The Big Lead on Monday.
It’s been known for some time that Battier likely will call it quits at the end of this season, with the Duke product telling reporters in March (via Bleacher Report’s Ethan Skolnick) that it would take “an act of God” for him to return in 2015.
Battier, like many of his Miami teammates, is currently seeking his third NBA championship in as many years. The Heat will square off against the San Antonio Spurs for the title in a rematch of the 2013 Finals, which Miami won in seven games.
Game 1 is set for Thursday night in San Antonio.
