Oakland Raiders Playing For More Than Wins Amid Coaching Drama

NFL: Oakland Raiders-Press ConferenceThe Oakland Raiders have more to worry about than winning football games this season.

The Raiders, who dropped their first four games to open the season, fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday night and named Tony Sparano the interim head coach the very next day.

While many more changes are likely on the horizon for players and coaches alike during the last 12 games of the season and beyond, it’s important for all parties not to get caught up in the drama, and instead stay focused on only the things they can control, former NFL quarterback Sage Rosenfels writes in his latest post for the website Football by Football.

Rosenfels understands the “heightened sense of job security stress” everyone in Oakland is experiencing right now, as he too played through a year where his head coach was fired in the middle of the season while he suited up for the Miami Dolphins.

“Every day for the rest of the season, everyone in that building is under the microscope,” Rosenfels writes. “Each player, coach, and staff member is walking on egg shells in hopes of doing enough over the next 3 months to be retained for next year.  This is not unusual in the league, but it’s multiplied during these times.”
