saints fanThe New Orleans Saints fan who snatched a football tossed by tight end Jermaine Gresham that was intended for a Cincinnati Bengals fan is defending his actions.

Tony Williams, who has been a Saints season-ticket holder for years, told the New Orleans Advocate on Monday that he had every right to keep the ball. He also said the reason why he didn’t give the ball to Christa Barrett was so he could keep it for his eight-year-old grandson, who plays football.

“(Gresham) tossed the ball,” Williams said. “It’s fair game to me. My whole mindset was my grandson.”

If you buy Williams explanation, it certainly makes him seem less like the jerk he appeared to be Sunday when he acted like a greedy child who didn’t want to share his toy.

Fortunately for Barrett, Gresham is sending her an autographed football, so it seems like everyone’s a winner in this story.
