One of March’s maddest moments came from the NIT of all places.

Old Dominion is moving on to the NIT semifinals after a thrilling 72-69 win over Murray State. The game was exciting from beginning to end, but it’s the finish that has to be seen to believe.

With just seconds to play and having to inbound from underneath its own basket, Old Dominion looked like it was going to have to settle for overtime. The Monarchs were able to inbound the ball to Trey Freeman, and he certainly did the rest.

Freeman raced up the court and somehow got around a defender before launching a shot from deep behind the 3-point line. Freeman’s runner banked off the backboard for the exhilarating buzzer-beater.

The raw video is incredible.

It’s been a tough few weeks for Murray State. The Racers were considered a likely NCAA Tournament team and obviously would have been a lock if they could win the Ohio Valley Conference. They were so close to doing so, too, holding a two-point lead over Belmont in the final seconds of the conference championship. Then, this happened.

Talk about a rough month.
