Klay Thompson was the victim of one of the nastiest-looking basketball injuries we’ve seen in a long time.
The Golden State Warriors sharp-shooter suffered a scary blow Wednesday night when he was kneed in the head by Houston Rockets guard Trevor Ariza. The knee was accidental, but that didn’t make it look any less painful for Thompson.
Thompson collapsed to the floor after taking the knee to the side of the head and eventually got back up on his feet. Making things even scarier, Thompson was bleeding from his right ear.

Incredibly, Thompson was cleared to return to the game. There’s some question as to whether he underwent concussion testing, which, given the way he took a grown man’s knee to the head, definitely should have happened. After the game, Thompson was reevaluated, and the Warriors released a statement saying he “developed” concussion-like symptoms.

According to ESPN, Thompson said in a postgame radio interview that he felt dizzy. And while it’s entirely possible that Thompson actually developed the symptoms some time after the play, it seems a little hard to believe he was fine after being kneed in the skull.
Thompson’s health became even less believable after his father’s revelation and ESPN’s “Mike &Â Mike” radio show Thursday morning.

The Warriors beat the Rockets in Game 5 to win the Western Conference finals and advance to the NBA Finals, where they’ll take on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson will have to be cleared before he can play, but the good news is that the finals don’t begin for an entire week.
