Mark Cuban Believes Roger Goodell Handled Deflategate ‘Masterfully’

BOSTON — Mark Cuban was deep in New England Patriots territory Wednesday night, but he had no problem expressing an unpopular opinion (at least in these parts) about the team’s recent scandal.

The Dallas Mavericks owner traveled with his team to TD Garden for the game against the Boston Celtics, and a reporter asked Cuban beforehand how he thought the NFL handled Deflategate.

“It was obvious to me that it was up to (commissioner) Roger Goodell to take the heat and take responsibility — and he handled it masterfully,” Cuban responded, via CelticsHub.com’s Brian Robb.”The fact it got reversed and all that is irrelevant. The NFL always loses their court cases the first time. Always. They end up winning them after it doesn’t matter.”

“I don’t know if (quarterback Tom) Brady lied or not. Who knows, right, with the whole phone thing and everything. The reality is it’s all about the good of the game, and that’s what Roger’s responsible for. …

“It’s not about Brady or anything else, it’s about how you manage the golden goose. That’s what he’s trying to do. I give him credit for taking all the bullets.”

This isn’t the first time Cuban has weighed in on Deflategate. Back in July, the outspoken owner argued Brady’s suspension should have been more severe than its original four games for the Patriots QB “trying to make a fool out of the commissioner.”
