News flash: Wayne Rooney is still quite good at soccer.

Rooney scored a peach of a goal Friday in Manchester United’s FA Cup game against Derby County.

The game was goal-less in the 16th minute when Rooney wrapped his foot around the ball and curled it past goalkeeper Scott Carson into theĀ far side of the goal.

Rooney is starting to score consistently after spending the first half of the season amid a dry spell. Rooney scored seven goals in 23 games in all competitions in the first half of the season, but he now has scored six goals in seven games since Jan. 1.

What a difference the turn of the calendar year makes.
