Josh Norman Backs Cam Newton Vs. Rodney Harrison With David Tyree Joke

Don’t worry, Cam. Josh has this one.

Rodney Harrison turned heads Wednesday by telling “The Dan Patrick Show” he’d try to hurt Cam Newton if he was playing in Super Bowl 50. The comment got back to Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman, who supported his quarterback and fired back at Harrison with a joke that probably won’t sit well with New England Patriots fans.

“You would have to ask (David) Tyree about that one,” Norman told reporters when informed of Harrison’s remarks, per the New York Post. “Remember (No.) 85, when he caught it over his head? Rodney’s been saying a lot of things this year, he really has. To comment on something like that … I don’t know.”

Norman, of course, was talking about the famous play from Super Bowl XLII in which Harrison (then a member of the Patriots) was unable to jar the football loose from New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree, who made an unbelievable, fourth-quarter catch up against his own helmet. The Giants scored a touchdown a few plays later and defeated the Patriots 17-14.

The Tyree catch happened eight years ago, but Norman and Harrison (now an NFL analyst for NBC Sports) have developed quite a rivalry this season. Norman took exception to some of Harrison’s analysis back in December, calling the former Patriots safety “horrible at his job.” It led to a back-and-forth between the sides and it’s obvious the dust hasn’t completely settled, especially in the wake of Harrison’s controversial comments about Newton.

“It’s something I don’t think this game would want,” Norman said of the Denver Broncos injuring Newton in Sunday’s big game. “I don’t think it’s something the Panthers would want, and I know it’s nothing that me, as his teammate, would want. I don’t want it to happen, period.”

Something everybody probably wants? More beef between Norman and Harrison. The entertainment value is high, at least.
