Jamie Vardy’s Suspension Vs. Man United Can’t Stop Leicester City’s Title Charge

Jamie Vardy isn’t perfect. Neither is Leicester City. But that shouldn’t stop the Foxes’ march to glory both this weekend and beyond.

Leicester City will take on Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford, but Vardy will play no part in the contest after the Football Association added an extra game to the red-card suspension he served last weekend, according to The BBC. The FA found Vardy guilty of improper conduct, and fined both the star striker and Leicester City for their actions on April 17 during the 2-2 draw against West Ham.

The Foxes now are one victory away from clinching the Premier League title — the most improbable of feats — but it will attempt to do so without Vardy, the league’s and their own top goal scorer. Newly minted PFA (player’s union) Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki likely will lead Leicester City’s attack against Manchester United — something they did with great effect last Saturday in the 4-0 win over Swansea City.

Vardy’s absence will be detrimental to Leicester City’s chances of winning the title at the so-called “Theater of Dreams.” After all, any team would suffer without its biggest gun, and Manchester United hasn’t given up its chase for fourth place and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League (a competition in which Leicester City will showcase its talents).

But Leicester City has proven over the last year that it has more than enough quality, grit and stamina to push over the finish line. Neither Manchester United nor upcoming opponents Everton and Chelsea look like they’ll deny the Foxes from the two points they need from their final three games to win the Premier League title.

Such is the nature of Vardy’s transgression and Leicester City’s dream season.
