Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Tyler Eifert has an injury.

The Cincinnati Bengals tight end had a breakout season in 2015, but he might not be on the field when the 2016 campaign kicks off in September. According to multiple reports, Eifert will miss at least three months with an ankle injury. Sources told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Eifert will soon undergo a “minimal procedure” to repair the nagging injury.

According to the report, Eifert injured his ankle during the Pro Bowl, and the injury hasn’t responded well enough to treatment. Eifert is expected to miss three months. That puts his status for Week 1 (Sept. 11) in jeopardy.

The Notre Dame product enjoyed plenty of success in 2015, his third season in the NFL. Despite playing in just 13 games, Eifert hauled in 52 passes for 615 yards and an incredible 13 touchdowns.

Eifert injured his elbow in the Bengals’ 2014 season opener and was put on injured reserve, missing almost the entire season. He missed three in 2015 with head and neck injuries.
