Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away from cancer on Tuesday. He was 68.

Johnson took a leave of absence from the Eagles in May to battle a cancerous tumor on his spine. He spent 22 years in the NFL as an assistant, regarded as one of the top defensive minds in the league. Last season, the Eagles finished third in total defense and reached the NFC Championship.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Vicky, two children and four grandchildren.
