After a disappointing rookie season, outside linebacker Vernon Gholston will make his first NFL start, even if it is only the preseason.

According to the New York Daily News, Jets coach Rex Ryan indicated that Gholston will start on Saturday night against the Giants.

A first-round pick of the Jets in 2008, Gholston has been practicing with the starters for two weeks, though Calvin Pace made the start against Baltimore. But with Pace suspended for the beginning of the season, Gholston will get his chance to prove his first-round value.

Gholston did not start in any games as a rookie in 2008 and recorded 13 tackles, five of which were solo. He signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the Jets prior to the 2008 season.
