Jason Giambi's triumphant return to the Oakland A's turned out to be a disappointment for all parties involved. The 38-year-old batted just .193 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs in 83 games with the A's before they let him go in early August.

Now, desperate for a bat off the bench, the Colorado Rockies are hoping Giambi can serve as the missing piece in their wild-card push.

According to The Colorado Springs Gazette, the Rockies have agreed to a deal with Giambi, who is reportedly set to join the Rockies' minor league affiliate in Colorado until MLB rosters can expand on Sept. 1.

The Rockies currently hold the lead in the National League wild-card race. Giambi could provide the Rockies with playoff experience, as Giambi has played in 42 postseason games with the A's and Yankees.
