With $59.7 million owed to Alex Rios from 2010 through 2014, the Toronto Blue Jays had been looking to take Rios' hefty contract off the books. On Monday, they did, as the right fielder was acquired by the Chicago White Sox via a waiver claim.

The waiver claim on him was first reported by ESPN.com on Friday. The White Sox were suspected to be the team that had claimed him, but the announcement was not made official until Monday.

Rios is hitting .264 this season with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs. He is expected to join the White Sox on Tuesday in Seattle.
