Kevin Garnett's Alley-Oop Inspires Confidence From Celtics It was a play that Kevin Garnett has completed countless times in his career, but never did it have such significance.

And it happened in practice, no less.

The play was an alley-oop — Garnett's first of the preseason — and the Celtics are happy to see their star forward showing a flash of explosiveness.

“He’s getting stronger and stronger," head coach Doc Rivers told The Boston Globe. "The only part lacking is he’s not explosive yet, but it’ll come. But you see it — and when he [completed the alley-oop], he yelled out, ‘Oh, I can do it.’ So, that was good to see.’’

Garnett said there's still more improvement on the way.

“I think Doc’s been waiting for me to grow wings and fly,’’ Garnett told the Globe. “Just tell him to be patient, the wings are coming.’’

Rivers said he didn't limit Garnett's participation in practice, while Garnett said his energy level is steadily increasing leading up to the season opener on Oct. 27.

“He’s gotten better every day,’’ captain Paul Pierce said. “He’s probably our most consistent player as far as preseason goes. He’s gathering it and getting his strength back."
