Support Dwindling for Rush Limbaugh's Ownership Bid, Starting With the Colts Rush Limbaugh's bid to buy the St. Louis Rams has already run into plenty of opposition, the latest of which has arrived in the form of Colts owner Jim Irsay.

During Tuesday's owners meeting, Irsay said that he would never consider voting to allow Limbaugh to buy an NFL team. Limbaugh, a staunch conservative, once served as a broadcaster on ESPN's Sunday Night Football broadcast but was forced to resign in 2003 after making this statement about Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."

Despite the fact that league commissioner Roger Goodell has already said that "divisive" comments will not be tolerated, it's not enough for Irsay.

"When there are comments that have been made that are inappropriate, incendiary and insensitive … our words do damage, and it's something that we don't need," Irsay said.

In 2007, a transcript on Limbaugh's Web site claimed he said, "The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it." Limbaugh denies ever making that statement.

Goodell has been clear that any controversial comments will not be tolerated in his league.

"I have said many times before that we are all held to a higher standard here," he said. "I think divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about. I would not want to see those kind of comments from people who are in a responsible position within the NFL. No. Absolutely not."

Irsay is not the only one speaking out against Limbaugh; he joins Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, plus NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith.

To be able to buy the Rams, Limbaugh must be approved by 24 of the league's 32 teams.
