The Patriots announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have signed linebacker Thomas Williams to the practice squad.

Williams' arrival fills the vacant spot on the eight-man practice squad left when cornerback Kyle Arrington was signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster prior to the Patriots' matchup against Miami on Sunday.

The 6-foot-1, 237-pound Williams, a product of Southern Cal, was Jacksonville's fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft. He appeared in six games for the Jaguars as a rookie and was waived by Jacksonville prior to the start of the 2009 regular season.

Williams spent time on the Seattle and Houston practice squads this season.
