CAP CANA, Dominican Republic — Pedro Martinez says he's thankful that the Philadelphia Phillies gave him a chance to play for them and is eager to compete for the NL East champions next season.

The 38-year-old Martinez said Saturday at David Ortiz's charity golf tournament at Cap Cana the Phillies "treated me very well and they were very professional. They will always have the door open."

The Phillies' bid for consecutive World Series titles fell two wins short against the New York Yankees last season. Martinez lost two games in the series.

The three-time Cy Young winner signed with the Phillies in July and went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in nine starts down the stretch.

Martinez also expressed his desire to take the mound for the Licey Tigers in the Dominican winter league.
