Mike Lowell may very well be dreaming of a Texas Christmas.
The Red Sox third baseman is due to touch down in Texas on Saturday after he met with a hand specialist in Arizona recently, a source told ESPNBoston.com.
During his visit to the Lone Star State, Lowell will meet with the Rangers' front office and medical staff to undergo a physical. If and when the Rangers like what they see in regards to Lowell's apparently injured thumb, the team will complete the previously reported deal that would send the veteran hot corner tenant to Texas for minor league catcher Max Ramirez.
In the deal, Boston will also be eating up a reported $9 million of Lowell's $12 million contract for the 2010 season. The 35-year-old hit .290 with 17 homers and 75 RBIs in 119 games last season, which was plagued by hip surgery in the offseason. In four years with Boston, Lowell has a .295 batting average with a .929 OPS, 75 homers and 348 RBIs in 539 games played.
