The Rangers said hello to a tough NHL enforcer after waiving one of their own.
The Rangers acquired left wing Jody Shelley from the Sharks on Friday, after waiving left wing Donald Brashear.
New York sent a conditional 2011 sixth-round draft pick to San Jose in the deal made hours before the NHL trade moratorium for the Olympic break.
Shelley was an enforcer for the Sharks, posting 285 penalty minutes and 10 fights this season.
In addition to acquiring Shelley, the Rangers have been active this month, acquiring Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust from the Flames on Feb. 2 in an attempt to improve their playoff chances.
