Red Sox Nation's future southern spot won't be as big as expected.

That's because the Red Sox and Lee County have agreed to downsize the new spring training project, according to The Fort Myers News-Press.

The new home is slated to be ready for the Sox in the spring of 2012 and will rest on a 106-acre site on Daniels Parkway. However, the $75 million complex, which is being funded by special taxing district money, will likely have 1,000 fewer seats, one fewer practice field, six fewer luxury suites and smaller clubhouses.

"It's no different than building a house with your wife and family," senior vice president of Kraft Construction Bob Koenig told The News-Press. "You wind up making different decisions as you move through that house. The floor plans are different. It's no different. Just a larger scale and you wind up making those decisions item by item on a stadium the same as you do when you're purchasing a house."

The complex was originally going to offer 12,000 seats and six practices fields.
