Arguably Maine's best-known running race, the TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10-kilometer race in Cape Elizabeth, is open for registration.

Online registration for the general public began Saturday morning for people interested in running in this summers event, which is being held August 7 and has an entry fee of $35.

The 6,000 openings in the 2009 race were filled online in less than two hours in 2009. The race, founded by Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson, began in 1998 with 3,000 runners.

The race, considered one
of the jewels on the U.S. road race circuit, also offers a Kids Fun Run.
