Bills, Broncos Err by Passing on Quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy FOXBORO, Mass. — Each NFL team that had a really good draft over the weekend can first credit its scouting staff. But those teams can also thank the select few organizations that soiled themselves in the draft for making them look that much better. Hey, those good players don't fall down the board on their own.

Let's check out the three teams that spent a little too much time at the dry cleaners last weekend.

Buffalo Bills
The Bills were in desperate need of an upgrade along the offensive line, but they only took two linemen — one in the fifth round and one in the seventh. They also needed a quarterback but only came away with Troy's Levi Brown in the seventh round. Buffalo passed over Jimmy Clausen in the second round and Colt McCoy in the third in favor of adding depth to the defensive line, which wasn't all that bad last season.

With the ninth pick, the Bills took Clemson running back C.J. Spiller, who will complement Buffalo's other two solid backs in Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch. Granted, Spiller promises to be a really good player, but a team with so many holes shouldn't have the luxury of stockpiling players at one position.

Denver Broncos
If anyone can turn Tim Tebow into a good quarterback, it's going to be Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels. But that doesn't mean McDaniels should have tried out this little social experiment, especially when it meant trading away a second-, third- and fourth-round pick to acquire the first-rounder used to take Tebow. Furthermore, Clausen and McCoy were still on the board, so there was no need to get so desperate. Obviously, McDaniels likes Tebow, but there were so many good players the Broncos could have snagged with those other selections.

Minnesota Vikings
They moved down from No. 30 to 34 and missed out on cornerback Patrick Robinson, who went 32nd to New Orleans. The Vikings then added Stanford running back Toby Gerhart with the 51st pick, passing over a handful of other backs who would have added a better change of pace to complement Adrian Peterson.

Minnesota could wind up with a fourth-round steal if it can motivate USC defensive end Everson Griffen, but he fell that far because no other team apparently believes such a feat is possible. And lastly, the Vikings failed to add a quarterback, so they better hope Brett Favre returns.
