Boston’s Biggest Sports Legend Tournament presented by Nissan is a Cross-Platform Initiative Launched on NESN and NESN.com

BOSTON, Mass. — NESN, New England’s most-watched sports network, has launched a cross-platform initiative that asks sports fans to determine once and for all who is the biggest Boston sports legend of all time. The six-week event is sponsored by Nissan and features a 64-legend field in a bracket-style tournament, where each sports legend goes head-to-head against another sports legend each week of the promotion.

The polls opened on NESN.com on Monday, April 26, and each round of voting will run one week. Results will be finalized every Monday at noon. The winner of each matchup will advance to the next round, and voting will commence for the new matchups. Voting will continue every week on NESN.com until the champion is crowned on Monday, June 7, 2010.

"Boston boasts some of the most legendary figures in all of sports, both past and present, and New England’s sports fans are some of the most knowledgeable in the country," said Sean McGrail, NESN’s president and CEO. "This initiative is another example of how we are able to effectively package the combination of NESN.com and the NESN network in a unique and compelling manner."

The Boston’s Biggest Sports Legend tournament will be promoted during NESN’s Red Sox programming and during regular segments on NESN SportsDesk when NESN’s sports experts will debate some of the more interesting weekly matchups and announce the previous week’s winners. NESN.com also will offer fans a chance to win preferred seating tickets to The Sports Museum’s annual Tradition gala held at TD Garden on June 14 and a limited edition, professionally-framed print of artists Michael Coyne’s mural entitled “Boston.”
