Jacoby Ellsbury Seeks Expert Medical Opinion in Los Angeles Jacoby Ellsbury
flew across the country to seek another opinion on his ribs.

The Red Sox center fielder met with renowned sports orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

According to WEEI.com, manager Terry Francona said Ellsbury "neeeds a little bit more rest."

Ellsbury initially injured his ribs in an April 11 collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre. After being activated on May 21, Ellsbury only played in three games before being sent back to the disabled list.

"Whether it’s medical people or players or managers, we just want what’s best for our players," Francona told WEEI in reference to Ellsbury seeking a third opinion. "However you’ve got to go about it, we’re willing to do it."

While the Red Sox wait for Ellsbury to get healthy, Josh Beckett remains inactive. The right-hander isn’t due to start a throwing regimen until at least June 12. Beckett will then need another 10-12 days to build up his arm strength and likely will need to make at least one minor league rehab start.

Boof Bonser returned to the Red Sox on Monday, after Jonathan Papelbon was placed on the bereavement list for a family medical issue. Bonser had been on the DL since March with a pulled right groin muscle. The right-hander had a rough outing on Wednesday against Cleveland, allowing four runs without recording an out.

Jeremy Hermida returned to the lineup on Wednesday night, after suffering rib and forearm injuries following a collision with Beltre last Friday.

In other optimistic injury news, Manny Delcarmen threw 18 pitches in a side session on Wednesday, and will be able to return to action at any time. Delcarmen experienced back pain in Sunday’s relief appearance, a problem that had been lingering for some time.
