Goodbye cows, hogs and deer. Hello Red Sox Nation.

The future spring training home of the Boston Red Sox is beginning to break ground at the Daniels Parkway site in Lee County, Fla., with a few local critters there to take in the sights.

Two construction trailers were delivered Tuesday and although the ceremonial groundbreaking isn't expected until August, John Cowart, a Kraft Construction superintendent, was on the property to secure a new fence to outline the worksite.

"This was a cattle fence," Cowart told news-press.com, mentioning that he's seen two cows, some hogs and small deer on the site. "They all live in the hammock (to protected land at the north end of the property). We're not going to bother them."

In addition to the construction of a new fence, generators, fuel tanks and sanitary facilities are expected to be delivered this week as well, as well as electronics for the trailers. The $75 million project – including a stadium with a capacity of 11,000 and six practice fields – is expected to be ready for 2012 spring training.
