Twins starting pitcher Kevin Slowey was working on what could have been the sixth no-hitter in Major League Baseball this season when he was pulled by manager Ron Gardenhire after seven innings of no-hit ball.

Slowey was no-hitting the Oakland Athletics and was pulled after throwing 106 pitches through the first seven innings. Slowey missed his last start and was coming off a full week's worth of rest to nurse a sore elbow.

With the Twins leading the race for the AL Central, it's obvious that Gardenhire was putting Slowey's health and the team's future ahead of baseball history.

Reliever Jon Rauch was brought on to start the eighth inning and promptly surrendered a one-out double to A's shortstop Cliff Pennington.
