The last investigation involving Plaxico Burress got him sent to jail. The next investigation could have him back catching passes for the New York Giants.

The New York Post is reporting that Burress — who is currently serving a two-year prison sentence — could be released soon and that the Giants are reportedly showing interest in re-acquiring Burress.

The 32-year-old wide receiver was arrested and sentenced to prison following a Nov. 28, 2008 incident in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg. Burress was later put away on firearms charges.

Despite the gaffe and the ensuing jail time, the Giants are still interested in Burress if he were to be released early, in "two or three weeks" as a source said.

"We'll definitely investigate it," Giants general manager Jerry Reese told the Post.

Burress last played in the league in 2008 playing in 11 games for the Giants. He caught 35 passes for 454 yards and four touchdowns.

While the Giants do have a young stable of talented wide receivers, they have lacked the consistent deep-ball threat that Burress gave Eli Manning when they were together.
