Shawn Thornton will drop the gloves and pick up a putter as he gets set to host the first annual "Putts and Punches for Parkinson's" golf tournament at the Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton, Mass., on Monday, Aug. 9.

Thornton will be joined on the links by teammates Milan Lucic and Tuukka Rask, with all proceeds benefiting the Boston Bruins Foundation and the American Parkinson Disease Association.

The 18-hole tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. and be followed by dinner and cocktails. Fans will also have a chance to win one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia, as well as raffle and silent auction items.

The price of the tournament is $1,600 per foursome, or individuals or companies may sponsor a hole for $2,000.

The Boston Bruins Foundation is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to assist charitable organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children throughout New England.

The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) is the country’s largest grassroots organization serving the Parkinson’s community.
