Minor League Additions Support Red Sox Lineup in Series Finale With Seattle

With J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell still ailing and other veterans getting a day off, the Red Sox will feature their bevy of minor league additions when they go for the sweep in Seattle on Wednesday.

Drew has missed the entire series after jamming his right ankle in the finale in Oakland on Sunday. The same goes for Lowell, who has started just three of the team's last nine games and is hitless in his last 17 at-bats.

Their absences open the door for Josh Reddick and Lars Anderson to get back in there. Reddick will be making his fourth start and second in right field since being recalled Sept. 6. He has had an RBI in each game of the Seattle series so far and is 6-for-16 (.375) since rejoining the big club.

Anderson had an RBI double in the series opener.

Ryan Kalish will bat second for the second time as a member of the Red Sox. He had a two-run homer in that role to help finish off Monday's 5-1 win. Kalish has 13 RBIs in 11 games this month.

Fellow rookies Daniel Nava and Yamaico Navarro are batting sixth and ninth, respectively.

Among the four veterans in the lineup, Marco Scutaro has most enjoyed facing Seattle right-hander David Pauley. Scutaro is 3-for-6 with a double off Pauley.

Boston's starter, Clay Buchholz, will be looking to bounce back from a horrid outing in Oakland five days ago and will have to do so against a lineup that is a collective 9-for-20 with four walks against him. Former Red Sox first baseman Casey Kotchman is 5-for-6 with three doubles off Buchholz.
