Mike Lowell has given so much to the Red Sox and the city of Boston. Now, the team wants to give something back.

Before Lowell retires from baseball after this season, the Red Sox have designated Saturday, Oct. 2, as "Thanks, Mike Night." The 2007 World Series MVP will be honored with a pregame ceremony prior to the Red Sox-Yankees game. The ceremony will include a special tribute to Lowell’s tenure with the Red Sox.

The 36-year-old played 13 years in the big leagues between the Yankees (1998-1999), Marlins (1999-2005) and Red Sox (2006-10). A four-time All-Star, Lowell won two World Series championships in his career — in 2003 with Florida and in 2007 with Boston.

Lowell might be leaving the game, but he will never be forgotten in New England.
