Which Loss Is Harder to Take for Fans of New England Sports? Patriots fans everywhere are experiencing one of the worst Monday’s to date. That’s because there’s nothing worse than losing to the Jets. Nothing.

Or is there?

The Pats are now 50-51-1 against Gang Green and are 14-6, including 8-2 on the road, in the series since 2001. But thanks to SpyGate, Hard Knocks, Rex Ryan‘s manhole-sized mouth and a 198-pound island named Darrelle Revis, Pats fans can’t stand anything Jets.

In fact, some Pats players aren’t too fond of the Jets, either.

A loss to the Jets is always tough to swallow, but it’s not the most vomit-inducing defeat this city has and will suffer from. The Red Sox and Yankees are arguably the biggest rivals in sports. But because the Sox take on the Yankees so often, a single loss may not encourage a one-way trip to the Tobin Bridge for even the most passionately sensitive Sox fan. However a series-clinching defeat in October tends to sting throughout the winter and even into spring training. Does anyone else still break out into a cold sweat when they hear the names Bucky Dent or Aaron Boone?

Then there’s the Bruins, who have had plenty of crunch-time problems with the Montreal Canadiens, to say the least. Although Boston ousted them in their last playoff matchup in 2009, the Habs have ended the Bruins’ Stanley Cup hopes 20 times since 1950. That’s a lot of late-season heartache for the Black and Gold to handle.

As for one of the most intriguing and historic rivalries in the country, the Celtics-Lakers matchups of the 1980s were the must-see event of the decade. The glitz and glamor of L.A. didn’t mix well with the blue-collared Bostonians and the hatred seemed to leak onto the parquet. Although C’s fans have plenty of titles to brag about, a loss to Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant or Lamar Odom is never easy to take in the dead of a Boston winter.
