Brandon Marshall is one of the biggest and loudest wide receivers in the NFL, but it’s not so bad when he’s on your side.
Marshall was recently asked for his opinion on wide receiver Davone Bess, one of his Miami teammates.
"He's one of the best route runners in all of football, ever," Marshall told the Miami Herald. "I mean, among today's receivers or ever.”
Davone Bess has recorded 21 receptions on the year with 245 yards, and a touchdown. He is in his third year in the league and his been a strong option for the Dolphins during his career. In his short career he has accumulated 151 receptions and 1,557, but again, only four touchdowns.
Once Bess becomes more of a redzone threat, he’ll be considered a solid NFL receiver. If he somehow surpasses Brandon Marshall as the team’s number one option, an argument can be made about him being one of the best in football.
But, ever? We all know that’s just crazy.
If you aren’t ready to crown Bess, how about Vontae Davis?
Last week, the Dolphins had a bye week, and Marshall made an appearance on CBS Sunday morning. He had a brief conversation with the crew and hyped up another one his teammates.
"They asked me who is the best DB in the NFL right now, and the NFL is what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league, and Vontae Davis is a shutdown corner right now," Marshall said. "Now you have [Darrelle] Revis who's played spottingly [sic] this year so I wouldn't say he's the best right now. You have Champ Bailey who's a little banged up and a little older. He's still great. The league is getting younger. And Vontae is that guy."
Davis had four picks last year, and has one on this young season.
It’s great that Marshall has such confidence in his team, and maybe this is what a leader is supposed to do, but as usual, Marshall is making claims that he can’t back up. If he inspires his team to perform, it would prove to be worth it, but he may simply be biting off more than his mates can chew.
