Rick DiPietro to Wear Pink Goalie Pads in Honor of NHL’s ‘Hockey Fights Cancer’ Awareness Month

We've seen athletes wear pink wristbands, pink cleats and even pink gloves.

Now, New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro is about to set a new trend — with some stylish pink goalie pads.

DiPietro, whose wife's aunt passed away from breast cancer, will wear the pads at some point in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It also honors the NHL's "Hockey Fights Cancer" awareness month, which DiPietro has long been a supporter of.

"I wear the ribbon on my mask," DiPietro told The Hockey News. "It gives us an opportunity to donate some money to charity—hopefully we'll auction those things off—and I have some pink sticks coming as well. I think Bauer's going to make up a bunch of extra sets (of pads), and see if we can't help out."
