Spike Lee Helps Knicks Reengage in Carmelo Anthony Trade Talks

Spike Lee always has been a Knicks superfan, but now he is contributing to the team in an even greater way.

According to the New York Post, the Denver Nuggets and Knicks are talking again about a possible Carmelo Anthony trade, and Lee may be the man to thank.

A source familiar with the situation has said that Anthony and Lee had several conversations over the past few weeks. In these conversations, Anthony has expressed a strong desire to play in New York, and Lee went to Knicks brass after talking with Melo.

This isn’t considered tampering because Lee does not work for the Knicks.

"Carmelo definitely, 100 percent wants to be a Knick," the source said.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh has gone from saying his team was on the outside looking in on the Carmelo sweepstakes to now only downplaying the recent ESPN report that claims talks have made "significant progress."

So what will it take to get Carmelo Anthony in Knicks blue and orange?

The Knicks have made everyone on their team available except for Amare Stoudemire, but that doesn’t seem to be enough.

Anthony Randolph and Danilo Gallinari have underwhelmed this preseason, and the rest of the roster alone isn't enticing enough for Denver to pull the trigger. If the Knicks want to get an Anthony deal done, they are going to have to get another team involved, and the Nuggets are open to that idea.

The Knicks will need to acquire a first-round pick or another prospect of similar quality for the Nuggets to seriously consider a trade right now.

The longer they wait, the better it is for the Knicks.

Anthony seems to be a lock for New York in the 2011 offseason, so even if he gets traded at the deadline, he could still end up on the Knicks by the summer.
